ESCHE ESTENSE s.r.l. was established in 2003 when it acquired the business of G.A.L.R.A. s.n.c., a company active in the field of live bait farming since the 1960s, continuing its activity and upgrading its production plants to improve and maintain a high product quality.
ESCHE ESTENSE s.r.l. specializes in the farming of larvae of calliphora vomitoria (also called “bluebottle fly”), more commonly known as maggots. We devote special attention to the care of our bait, with the help of advanced equipment and odor treatment systems which allow our maggots to live in an environment most closely resembling their natural habitat.
ESCHE ESTENSE s.r.l. is sensitive to environmental issues. In 2015 we installed a photovoltaic system, and we do not dye our bait (which is usually done with aniline).
Maggots, or flesh fly larvae, are whitish in color, just over one centimeter long and a couple millimeters wide. While originally used as freshwater bait exclusively, maggots are now also among the most popular types of saltwater bait throughout the year.
Maggots are widely used as bait for sport and recreational fishing, and they make excellent groundbait thanks to their enduring liveliness, their appeal and their much lower cost in comparison with other types of bait. Many species of fish are attracted to this bait, from sought-after sea fish such as sea bass, gilt-head bream and white seabream to common sea fish like flathead grey mullet, saddled seabream and needlefish, and even freshwater fish such as carp, zander, tench, crucian carp, barb, chub, catfish and eel.
